Dominique Carter Named Best Offensive Player at Annual Women's Basketball Banquet

April 18, 2008

(San Francisco, CA) - Four time First Team All-Conference guard Dominique Carter won her team's Offensive Player of the Year at the Women's Basketball Annual Banquet at the Cliff House Restaurant on Thursday.

Carter ends her prolific career with 1800 points, second on USF charts behind USF Hall-of-Famer Mary Hile-Nepfel (1977-81/2,324). The 1800 points are also good for third in West Coast Conference charts, trailing Saint Mary's Tracy Morris (1996-2000) by just two points. Carter scored 538 points in 30 games this season, good for sixth place on USF's single season scoring chart. The Tracy, CA native was first in conference with a .518 3-point field goal percentage (43-83), second in both field goal percentage (.550/215-391) and free throw percentage (.823/65-79), and third in scoring with 17.9 points per game.

Sophomore forward Heidi Heintz earned the Best Defensive Player of the Year Award. Heintz was tough as nails on the court, amassing 23 steals and three block, all while playing spectacular defense, often on players much taller than she it. Heintz led the Dons with 1,029 minutes played this season, 53 minutes more then the next highest player.

Junior center Necolia Simmons won the Best Rebounder Award after bringing down a team high 218 rebounds (87 offensive, 131 defensive). Her 7.3 rebounds per game were good enough for 6th place in conference standings.

Freshman forward Donnisha Taylor earned the Most Improved Player Award after working hard and proving herself in her first year on the Hilltop. Taylor played in 22 games with one start and scored 40 points on the season on .318 shooting (14-44). She added 40 rebounds, three assists and four steals.
