(San Francisco) - USF men's basketball adds another talented perimeter player with the signing of 6-4 guard Chris O'Brien (Irvine, CA) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) as announced today by head coach Rex Walters. O'Brien departed Northwood High School ranked in the top-five in virtually every offensive category.
"Chris is a gifted perimeter player with a great feel for the game," Walters said. "We feel fortunate to get such a quality player. He'll be able to play both wing spots and can play the point as well. He's a good athlete who really gets after it on the court. I am really excited about coaching him at USF."
A two-time All-CIF Division I selection, O'Brien departed Northwood as the program's second leading scorer (1,241 points) and rated first in assists (421) and steals (179). In addition, he finished as the team's fourth leading rebounder with 465.
After averaging 19.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and six assists per game as a senior, O'Brien earned All-Orange County, league MVP honors and was nominated for McDonald's All-American consideration. As a junior, O'Brien averaged 14.3, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game for the Timberwolves. The three-time all-league choice and two-time all-city pick was named as the school's 2007 scholar-athlete of the year.
