USF Basketball Signs Kwame Vaughn (Oakland) to Scholarship Agreement

May 14, 2008

(San Francisco) - USF men's basketball welcomes another recruit with strong Bay Area ties for the 2008-09 season as Kwame Vaughn (Oakland), a 6-3 guard has signed a scholarship agreement as announced today by head coach Rex Walters. Vaughn led the Oakland Section in scoring in 2007, averaging 16.8 points per game for Skyline High School.

"We really feel fortunate to get such a quality player this late in the process," Walters said. "It's a great opportunity for us to add another strong Bay Area product to the team. He'll help us immediately and give us depth at both guard spots this season. He's got a chance to be a really good player for us."

As a junior, Vaughn helped Skyline to a 19-12 overall record and a 7-3 mark in the Oakland League, falling in the quarterfinals of the sectional playoffs. In addition to leading the league in scoring, Vaughn dished out 162 assists (5.2 apg), grabbed 155 rebounds (5.0 per game), to go along with 111 steals (3.2 spg). He shot 49 percent from the floor (172-of-348) and 51 percent from the three-point line (51-of-101). Following his junior campaign, he was named to the All-Metro Second Team by the San Francisco Chronicle.

As a senior, Vaughn helped lead Skyline to a 15-14 record and a fourth place finish in the always tough Oakland Athletic League. Vaughn captured OAL First Team selection for the second straight season after averaging 23.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
