In the second day of the NCAA Track and Field West Regional competition junior Alex Nelson finished in ninth place with a time of 3:48.09, becoming the highest placing Don ever at the Regional Meet.

Nelson, who broke his own school records in the 800m and 1500m countless times this season, earned his spot in today's final after he ran a school record time of 3:44.78 on Friday in the prelims.

"Alex had a great season and showed the type of talent he has against some of the top runners in the country," said Head Coach Helen Lehman-Winters.

Nelson and senior Jennifer Hartford, who finished 12th overall in the women's 5000m Friday night, became the first two Dons in the history of Track and Field to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet.
